Probationary Officer (PO) is the entry level position in the officer cadre in banking industry. POs have a good career path in bank and can make to top positions in the bank
Recruitment of probationary officers in Banks is done through a written competitive exam (Bank PO exam) followed by interview for successful candidates. Different banks advertise in leading newspapers from time to time for the said exam depending upon number of vacancies available for probationary officers. Each bank has a separate process of selection for the POs. Some banks do selection only by written exams  but other have a process of interview for successful candidates. Some banks like SBI follow three stage selection and have group discussions before interview.
Eligibility Criteria


Indian.  In some banks there are also provisions for subjects of some neighbouring countries


Minimum qualification is Graduation. However banks also prescribe  at least 55 to 60% marks in graduation as eligibility criteria. The minimum required marks can also be different for science, commerce and arts stream. Further there may be relaxations for reserved category


Age requirement in most Bank PO exam is 21 to 30 years.  This may be relaxed upto 5 years for reserved categories.

There are no fixed dates. Each bank advertises separately depending on number of vacancies in the said bank
